Baby Registry 2.0–Creating a list online is much easier than in stores
Sogra Nishath / Usability / Web & SoftwareMy husband and I are expecting our first child. We are both “legal aliens” who work in the US. To us, creating a baby registry is not the norm. Usually friends and family give a present of their choosing. Sometimes this can be a good surprise and sometimes not…
So my husband and I, at the request of our friends, decided to give the baby registry a try. As much as I love the concept of a registry, our first experience signing up for one was frustrating, exhausting, and on a positive note very, very exciting! We have attempted to register with several different stores with little success. At the first store, w were there for 3 hours and only registered for 5 items (all clothes). The second time around we decided to try a different, more affordable store with mostly similar results–it took us 4 hours to register for 20 items. It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to pick out bottles and pacifiers! Regardless, we decided to do a little research before we completed our registry. So, I started reviewing consumer reports, blogs, reviews etc. to find the safest brands for our precious little one at a good price, which was no easy task. And then one day on one of my routine searches I discovered kaboodle.com!
Kaboodle is a social networking site where I can create my lists (baby list, shopping list, etc.) and share them with anyone. I can add products from my favorite shopping sites to the list (be it Babies R’ Us, Pottery Barn, or Target). Another cool feature of this experience is that I can even download a Kaboodle button for my browser and as I am browsing through multiple sites click on the Kaboodle button to add the product to my list and the list on Kaboodle gets updated instantly. This list can be shared with your loved ones and they can purchase or reserve the items and the list again gets updated instantly. Who knew registering could be so easy!

I am definitely going to give it a try and see if it works for me. The concept is great, as long as the user interface is well-designed for me to set it up and easy for my friends and family to access it. I hope it is. Maybe that will be my next blog!
